Plaid built the leading bank-data network, and its payments offering still reflects that modular heritage. Merchants assemble Link, Auth, Balance, Signal and Transfer, and each piece brings its own configuration and fees. Transfer is US-only, requires approval and carries use-case restrictions. Guarantee outcomes come back per transfer as full, partial or none, and Signal scores return risk without settling or guaranteeing the payment, so the merchant still writes the rules and carries much of the loss.
