Ways to Support Local Businesses During COVID-19

Running a business has many twists and turns. While many business owners never imagined a twist like that of the Coronavirus, it's something that everyone is having to deal with - business owner or not.

The entrepreneurial community in particular is scrambling, with many wondering how they can stay in business during this time. Not to mention what their business will look like once we get back to a new normal, whenever that time comes.

In the meantime, it's important that communities get creative in supporting their local businesses. Below are a few ideas our team at AeroPay came up with!

Buy gift cards

Purchasing gift cards during this time is a great way to support local businesses. Doing so gives them some cash flow while their business is closed or taking a significant hit. And better yet, it’ll give you something to look forward to - a nice meal out, your favorite cup of coffee, a manicure or pedicure - when this is all behind us! We know they'll be happy to see your face next time you're in.

Order delivery‍

If you live in an area where getting food delivered is an option, now is a great time to take advantage of it. Many restaurants and breweries have gone delivery only, even some that don’t usually offer delivery at all. Plus, you’re stuck at home anyway. Order yourself a pizza, some tacos, or even a 6-pack of your favorite local beer. It’s a win-win.‍

It goes both ways‍

There are countless businesses that are a fixture in our monthly budgets that we absolutely can't use right now, such as gyms or music lessons. These types of businesses are getting hit as hard as any, so keep up with your weekly or monthly payment if you’re able to do so.

On the other hand, these business owners should think outside the box for ways to return the favor. For example, fitness-based businesses can offer online workout sessions. Guitar and piano teachers can provide virtual classes for their students.

As we are all isolated to varying degrees during this time, human interaction is as important as ever. While we may not be able to always be face-to-face, there is an opportunity to look for creative ways for us to connect with our local businesses and for those businesses to connect with their clientele. ‍

Doing our part‍

At AeroPay, we’ve launched a Virtual Tip Jar to help support the merchants we work with. We’re at over 20 and counting accepting virtual “tips” to help these businesses and their employees through this difficult time.

We’d be more than happy to help set up a similar situation for your business or a business you frequent - free of charge. We’ve also got our Online Pay capabilities for e-commerce businesses. We’re waiving all associated fees for that as well during this time.

If you’re interested in learning more or getting this set up for your business, reach out here and put “COVID-19” in the subject line.
